This product is a clear, viscous liquid, colorless or slightly yellow; it has a slight odor and a mild taste that later becomes slightly pungent.

Castor is a tall annual herb, often growing as a perennial shrub or small tree in tropical or southern regions. It is green or slightly purple and hairless. The leaves are simple and alternate, with long petioles; the leaf blades are shield-shaped and circular, 15-60 cm in diameter, sometimes up to 90 cm, palmately lobed to less than half the blade, with 5-11 lobes that are ovate-lanceolate to oblong, tapering at the tip, with serrated edges, and the main veins are palmate. The inflorescence is a panicle, opposite the leaves and terminal, 10-30 cm or longer, with male flowers at the lower part and female flowers at the upper part; the flowers are monoecious and lack petals; the male flowers have 3-5 sepals; the stamens are numerous, with highly branched filaments; the female flowers have 3-5 sepals; the ovary is 3-chambered, with one ovule per chamber; the styles are 3, deep red, and bifid. The capsule is spherical, 1-2 cm long, with soft spines, and splits open when mature; the seeds are oblong, smooth, and mottled. The flowering period is from May to August, and the fruiting period is from July to October.
